Changes to Council telephone numbers

Date: 18/06/2014
Ref: PR 4598

Some of Wakefield Council's telephone numbers have changed to make sure that all residents pay no more than the cost of a local call.

To contact the Council residents previously called an 0845 number, and rates differed depending on the caller's own phone package. To make the cost of calling the Council fairer, the numbers have now changed to 0345 which is charged at a local rate.

Cllr Graham Stokes, Cabinet Member for Corporate Performance, said: "We have changed our main numbers from 0845 to 0345 to make sure that everyone is charged at a local rate, making the cost of a phone call to the Council much fairer for all residents.

"The only change in the number is one digit from 0845 to 0345 – the rest of the number will stay the same."

For the time being customers ringing 0845 will still get through but will hear a message advising them of the change to the numbers.
