Wakefield Council is encouraging people to get on their bikes this summer.

The Council, in partnership with British Cycling, is offering a programme of free, fun and energetic led rides in the district.

Cllr David Dagger, Wakefield Council's cabinet member for Culture, Sport and Libraries said: "We are just weeks away from the Tour De France arriving in Yorkshire. Now is a great time for everyone to get on their bike this summer, get active and explore the district with these bike rides."

The next rides are on Sunday June 22 at Frickley Country Park and Ossett Busett ride.

The ride at Frickley Country Park begins at 2pm and is an easy going ride, ideal for families, whilst the ride at Ossett Cricket Club starts at 10am and has more pace.

Other rides are also taking place as a part of the Wakefield District Cycle Forum on Sunday June 8 from 10.15am at Anglers Country Park as well as a Sky Ride covering 21 miles at 10.15am going through the wonders of Wakefield route. Spaces must be booked for the sky ride via www.goskyride.com
