Thornes Park Athletics Stadium closed Bank Holiday Sunday

Wakefield Council is notifying people that Thornes Park Athletics Stadium in Wakefield will be closed on Bank Holiday Sunday – May 25 – for the counting of votes in the European Parliamentary Election.

The counting of the votes is not open to the public and admittance to the stadium will be by ticket only.

The stadium car park will also be closed to the public all day. The closure will be supervised by security staff and entry to the car park will be by permit only

The Council apologise for any inconvenience to Thornes Park users and advises that alternative parking facilities are available either off Thornes Road next to the duck pond or on Denby Dale Road, off the roundabout.

The European Parliamentary Election results from all 21 Council areas in the Yorkshire and the Humber region will be co-ordinated by the Regional Retuning Officer in Leeds and the regional result will be declared by the Regional Returning Officer after 10.00pm. The local result for the Wakefield area will be declared after 10.00pm and the local results will be available on the Council's website.
