Wakefield Council celebrates Easter at local castles
Ref: PR 4537
This Easter Wakefield Council is putting on two free family events to mark the holiday at local castles in the district.
Sandal Castle will host a celebration of Wakefield's Polish culture with a fun workshop where families can discover how Easter is celebrated the Polish way.
Children can also join in the fun by decorating pisanki Easter eggs, making a traditional Easter lamb and learning what a traditional Polish Easter basket includes.
In medieval times Easter was the biggest celebration of the year so where better to enjoy the festivities than at Pontefract Castle? The Council will hold an Easter Egg Trail for children to hunt the grounds looking for clues, they can also make some great Easter crafts and play giant games.
Cllr David Dagger, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Libraries said: "Our Easter Egg Trail at Pontefract Castle is fast becoming a popular annual event, the site is perfect for families who want to spend the whole day, they can use the picnic benches and look round the visitor centre.
"Wakefield has a diverse cultural community and we want to celebrate this, Easter Fun Polish Style at Sandal castle will be a fun event for the whole family to enjoy. The Council hopes to develop more workshops like this which will hopefully bring different communities together as they learn about various cultures."
The council is advertising the workshop in both Polish and English:
