Reel Cinema to open next month
Wakefield Council are delighted that Reel Cinema will be opening in The Ridings Centre on Friday 16 August.
The five-screen cinema will occupy the space of three former retail units and is part of the plans that NewRiver, the owners of The Ridings Centre, have set out to transform the upper mall of the centre.
Cllr Denise Jeffery, Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Regeneration, said: "We are pleased that Reel Cinema have now announced their opening date as this will be an exciting addition to Wakefield's leisure offer.
"We hope the cinema will drive footfall for The Ridings and the city centre, particularly in the evenings, and we hope the residents of Wakefield will enjoy the cinema for years to come.
"This news will be welcomed by the High Street Task Force, of which NewRiver is part, who met for the first time last month to discuss the future of Wakefield city centre and how to bring new experiences to our town centres."
Reel Cinemas was established in 2001 and is now one of the largest independent cinema operators in the UK, with 13 venues across the country and plans to develop 10 more over the next five years.
