Squeezing the most out of summer with Money Smart
Wakefield Council's Energy and Homeowner Support team will be holding a free event to help residents make their money go further during the difficult summer holiday period.
The event, in partnership with Leeds City Credit Union, will be held in the Wakefield One atrium, on Burton Street in Wakefield, on Thursday 25 July 10am to 4pm and will give residents the opportunity to get more information about the Council's Money Smart scheme and other free support available.
The summer holidays can be a hard time financially for a lot of families. There will be information on free events across the district as well as money saving advice including advice on money and debt management, accessing benefits, lowering fuel bills and getting back into employment or improving job skills.
Cllr Denise Jeffery, Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Regeneration, said: "Money worries affect a lot of people and we know that the school summer holidays can be a particularly difficult time for families.
"We want to provide practical help on ways to manage money and tackle any money problems. Many residents may not be aware of the help that is available, so if you are struggling, please come along to the event and find out how we can help."
Money Smart is also a one-stop-shop to link residents to other schemes to help them with home energy efficiency improvements, home repairs advice and home improvement loans, and the Mortgage Breathing Space project for those who are at risk of becoming homeless due to repossession action.
Residents will be able to talk to officers about their finances and get advice on debt if they need it. Leeds City Credit Union will be on hand with helpful information on saving made easy and preparing for big life events more easily.
This is the first of three events that are being held, the next events being in October and then February 2020.
