Thornes Park to be temporarily closed for the EU election count
Thornes Park Athletics Stadium in Wakefield will be temporarily closed to host the counting of the district's votes for the European Parliamentary election, from Friday 24 May at 4.00pm until Tuesday 28 May at 10.30am.
People will be able to use the gyms at the leisure centre on Friday 24 May until 4.00pm. The main hall will be closed from 7am.
On Saturday 25 May, when the weekly Park Run takes place, portable toilets will be available for runners and spectators as there will be no access to the leisure centre facilities.
The car park remains open as usual, but with a reduced number of spaces, on Sunday 26 May, when the EU election count takes place. Alternative parking facilities will be available off Thornes Road next to the duck pond or on Denby Dale Road, off the roundabout.
Aspire Fitness Scheme members can use Sun Lane Leisure Centre or any other council-run leisure facilities.
The election count is not open to the public.
The results of the EU election for the Yorkshire and Humber region, of which Wakefield is a part, will be announced in Leeds on Sunday 26 May after 10pm. A link to the election results will be posted on the Council's website at www.wakefield.gov.uk/elections
