Wakefield Council’s transport services wins national award
Wakefield Council has been awarded a prestigious national award for its transport services.
The recognition came from the Association for Public Service Excellence (ASPE) awards, with Wakefield Council scooping the top accolade in the Most Improved Performer for transport operations and vehicle maintenance category. The Council beat six other Councils, from up and down the country, to win the award.
Cllr Matthew Morley, Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: "I am delighted that the Council has won this important award, nationally recognising the success of our transport services.
"I am really proud of our staff for their efforts and continual improvement which has given them this award.
"This is the second time the team have won this award and to win again shows that the service is always looking to improve and provide the best service to local residents."
The Council has 700 vehicles supporting the delivery of frontline services to the public. Street lights, refuse collectors, gritters and passenger transport all rely on the transport team.
The service continually monitors its performance to ensure that they are making progress and improving their performance.
