Councillor Peter Box CBE, Leader of Wakefield, will today (Tuesday) lead a one minute silence  to show support for those affected by the weekend’s tragic events in Orlando, USA where 50 people were killed and many more were injured.

The silence will be held at the start of today's Cabinet meeting at 10.30am in the Town Hall, Wakefield.

Tonight (Tuesday) Wakefield’s Town Hall clock will be lit in rainbow colours in a show of solidarity for those who died and for their loved ones.

Cllr Box said: “People in the Wakefield district, and across the world, have been deeply moved by this appalling act of violence.

“We believe in tolerance and peace in our district and it is very important that we continue to express and live by these essential values which bring communities and individuals together.”
