Candidates for this year’s Parliamentary, district and parish and town council elections are being advised nominations will open the week commencing March 30.
The General Election is on 7 May for three constituencies in the district –Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford, Hemsworth and Wakefield. Voters will be deciding who will represent them as their Member of Parliament for the next five years.
On the same day one third of Wakefield Council’s seats - 21- will also be up for election. In some parts of the district, voters will also be electing their town and parish councillors.
Nominations packs can be obtained by visiting the Council’s website http://www.wakefield.gov.uk/about-the-council/elections or contacting the elections office to on 01924 305023.
Candidates will also have the opportunity to have their nomination papers checked before submitting them. Informal pre-nomination checking starts on Wednesday 25th March and finishes on Friday 27th March during office hours. For further information please contact 01924 305023.
Additionally, candidates and election agents will be invited to attend post-nomination briefing sessions following the close of nominations.
The sessions ( which are not open to the public) will be held at County Hall in the Council Chamber on Tuesday 14th April – 5.30pm; Wednesday 15th April – 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm; Friday 17th April – 2.30 pm and 5.30pm.
