The Priority Gritting Routes are made up of 13 individual routes and include all of the roads that are considered essential to ensure that the main traffic routes, commercial routes and commuter routes across the district are kept free of hazards. These routes are treated when weather conditions are forecast by the Met Office which are likely to form a hazard on the highway surface, such as ice, hoar frost or snow.
