Tracey Womack is a woman on a mission - to make Wakefield a cleaner place! She is a part of Wakefield Council’s army of street cleaners who are helping to put the shine back into life in the district.
She is has worked for the council for five years and is a lead operative in the street cleaning team. Her message to Wakefield is:” Have pride in the city by helping to keep it clean.”
Her colleague Danny Huskins says: "The best thing about this job is being in the great outdoors and interacting with people. And it's great when people come up to me and say what a good job we're doing or how they like a particular park or flower bed - it gives you a real sense of worth.”
Co-worker, 43-year-old Darran McGuire, agrees saying there is never a moment of boredom in his job. “I have helped to grit during the recent extreme weather, helped to sandbag businesses during the summer floods, won a silver gilt medal at the national Tatton Park competition with a team-created themed bed using Council-grown plants and gained qualifications.”
