Wakefield Council statement on swine flu

Joanne Roney, Chief Executive for Wakefield Council, said: "We have a Wakefield district multi-agency pandemic influenza plan for which NHS Wakefield District is the lead organisation, and we are working in conjunction with them. The plan is in place and being reassessed in the light of the developing situation.

"We have given Council staff advice following Health Protection Agency guidelines and I have asked all Council services to review their business continuity plans. We have responsibility for a wide range of functions, including social care and children's services, and have an important role in providing information, advice and reassurance.

"Maintaining services on which many vulnerable people rely are always a top priority. We are working with our partners in Wakefield and across West Yorkshire to make sure our plans are robust and effective."
