GO Wakefield!

Ref: PR2189
Date: 09/04/09

Wakefield Council received a Get On (GO) Local Government Award at an awards presentation last month.

The GO award, launched in 2005, is the Improvement and Development Agency's national campaign to encourage local authority employers to take a more proactive, sustained and strategic approach to workplace skills for life.

To achieve the award a council must be able to demonstrate that skills improvement is ongoing across the whole organisation.

Graham Stokes, cabinet member for corporate service, said: "We are extremely proud to have being presented with this award. Wakefield Council places a great emphasis on enhancing and developing skills in the workplace and we are happy to have being recognised."

Hilary Brearley, HR Service Director, said: "This recognition builds on our achievement of being recognised as an Investor in People and reassures us that the way we help our people to improve their skill levels will mean we can continue to improve and deliver excellent services to the citizens of our district"

The GO awards are sponsored by Unison and Investors in People.
