Road closure - Wrangbrook Lane, Upton

Ref: PR1941
Date: 01/10/08

Motorists are being warned of possible delays in the Upton area as works to construct the new Hemsworth A1 Link Road enter a new phase.

The road will run between the Hemsworth bypass and the A1 at Barnsdale Bar, including a new section of road from the bypass to the north of its junction with the B6422 and an upgrade of Wrangbrook Lane from the A638 at North Elmsall to the A1.

As a section of the new link road is to be built along the line of the existing Wrangbrook Lane, this road has to be closed in order to facilitate such works.

Wrangbrook Lane will be closed from 6th October 2008 for a period of 8 weeks. Traffic will be diverted via Wrangbrook Lane, A1 - Barnsdale Bar junction, A1 travelling South to Redhouse junction 38, Doncaster Road and vice versa.

The works have been programmed in such a way to reduce disruption to an absolute minimum and the local authority is working closely with the Contractor in order to ensure works progress at a satisfactory speed.

The road will help to improve road safety and the environment by moving traffic away from urban areas, whilst boosting the regeneration of the surrounding former colliery sites and villages, therefore improving the economic prospects for the area.

Work is expected to be completed in the Summer of 2009.
