Cabinet Listens events in store

Ref: PR1929
Date: 29/09/08

Residents are being given the chance to make their voices heard when Wakefield Council's team of decision makers tour the district this autumn.

Cabinet Listens events are part of an ongoing programme of community engagement where the public can raise issues about the places they live and issues close to their heart.

The event will offer citizens the opportunity to discuss these with the Council's cabinet, a group of senior politicians who develop policies and have special interests and responsibilities.

Cllr Peter Box, leader of Wakefield Council, said: "This is a great opportunity for citizens to tell us about their concerns and to learn more about some of the good things that are going on to make the district a safer, cleaner and more pleasant place to live."

The events offer people the chance to say what things are working well and where the Council can improve. Topics are varied, and range from regeneration and Council services, to fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.

Public feedback from Cabinet Listens will be used in the district's plan, called Developing Knowledge Communities, and will also help inform further Council development work to achieve healthier, safer and stronger communities, skills, enterprise and work.

Feedback from previous events has been used for a number of initiatives including improvements to the Council's work with local neighbourhoods. A new public awareness campaign focusing on the environment is also being launched.

The events are as follows:-

  • Havercroft and Ryhill Sports Centre, October 15, at 6pm
  • St. Lukes Church Hall, Overton, October 29, at 6pm
  • Ossett Town Hall, November 6, at 6pm
