A partnership event was held recently at De Lacy Gardens to celebrate this new extra care housing development.

The scheme is run by Hanover Housing Association and an on-site care team is provided through Wakefield Council Family Services home care service to meet the needs of the tenants in the scheme 24 hours a day.

The ceremony, held last Friday, was opened by the Mayor of Wakefield and was attended by local councillors, staff and tenants.

The mayor, Cllr Jacqui Williams, said: "This is an excellent development and it is the sort of service we want to see available to older people who need this type of care and support within the Wakefield District."

The Pontefract-based building opened in September 2007 and has 45 apartments for older people.
