Big summer ahead at the Council's historic Clarke Hall
Ref: PR1856
Date: 22/07/08
A bigger-than-ever programme of events, activities and workshops are being lined up at the historic Clarke Hall this summer.
The wonderful late 17th Century hall, which is part of Wakefield Council's Museums Service, will be hosting events including family workshops on Thursdays.
Each one include a hands-on craft activity to make something to take home, including natural sculptures and felt bugs inspired by the gardens and historical medicines and toys in the Hall.
And for the first time ever, there is a new programme of adult workshops on Wednesday evenings. They will allow people to explore different aspects of 17th Century life and culture, from making and decorating desserts in the period kitchen, to investigating the use of fans and exploring and creating paintings from historic plants. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
There will also be authentic costumed guided tours on Wednesday August 20, which includes an evening tour. Booking is also required.
Family workshops and tours are free, adult workshops cost £3.50 (£2 concessions) and all need to be pre-booked on 01977 722744.
On Sunday August 17, visitors can step into the early 18th Century for the Clarke Hall Garden Party. Storytelling, cookery demonstrations, costume displays and craft activities - but be warned, there may be highwaymen lurking in the shadows.
