Wakefield Council publication The Guide 2009 was launched today (Tues) by deputy leader Cllr Denise Jeffery,outside the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) at the Bull Ring, Wakefield.

The 50-page publication details the many events and attractions that make up the Wakefield district experience and will be distributed through Tourist Information Centres across the country. It will also be part of the Yorkshire Tourist Board’s ‘Make Yorkshire Yours’ campaign in the South East of England which encourages visitors to come to Yorkshire.

Cllr Jeffery, who is also Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Culture and Sport, handed out rhubarb flavoured treats to launch the publication and to publicise one of Wakefield’s biggest annual visitor events, the Festival of Food, Drink and Rhubarb which will be held on February 27 and 28 next year.

There are 20,000 copies of The Guide 2009 being printed, which will be available locally from the TIC, council buildings and visitor attractions across the district from Friday. An on-line version is also available at www.experiencewakefield.co.uk

The Guide 2009 highlights the district’s unique cultural attractions, its food and drink sensations, sculpture and the arts, live music, shopping, heritage, the district’s many festivals and accommodation for visitors.
