Experience Wakefield’s countryside
Date: 17/08/2007
Countryside Rangers from the Council's Neighbourhood Services are encouraging visitors to experience the countryside. They are promoting their country parks and events programme with displays and children’s activities in The Ridings Shopping Centre on Tuesday 21 August and Carlton Lanes Shopping Centre on Wednesday 22 August 2007.
Countryside and Conservation manages over 1100 acres of land with free public access. There are large country parks at Newmillerdam and Wintersett (Anglers Country Park), as well as lakes, woodlands, Nature Reserves, heaths and commons. They make a valuable contribution to environmental conservation, providing habitat for wildlife and offering an opportunity for everyone to enjoy nature.
The Countryside Rangers look after the sites and the visitors, putting on events and a variety of activities to help people explore Wakefield’s countryside and learn about its wildlife, heritage and future. They can be contacted on 01924 303980.
