Wakefield’s bonfire and fireworks event
Ref: PR 4340
Thousands of visitors are expected at Thornes Park in Wakefield to enjoy the bonfire and fireworks display on Saturday November 2.
The event starts at 6pm and the bonfire will be lit at 7pm. Followed by a spectacular firework display at 8pm. There will also be a competition for the best Guy Fawkes on stage at 7.30pm with prizes for the successful entries.
Cllr Dagger said: “Thornes Bonfire is always popular and a great night out for everyone. I’m sure the display will be spectacular and as impressive as previous years have been.
“Residents can stay safe by attending organised bonfires and fireworks displays such as the one at Thornes which are supervised. I hope everyone who joins us has a great time and most importantly stays safe.”
There will be no parking available at Thornes Park Stadium or at Wakefield College.
In the interest of safety, visitors are asked not to bring along alcohol, Chinese lanterns or their own fireworks or sparklers.
To stay safe this Halloween and bonfire night, residents are reminded to follow these safety tips:
• Read fireworks instructions properly - and follow the recommended safe distances
• Never return to a firework once it has been lit - it could explode
• Wear gloves to hold sparklers - put them in a bucket of water as soon as they've finished
• Ensure children are supervised at all times - do not leave them alone with fireworks
• Keep all pets indoors.
