Working to improve roads across the district
Date: 14/12/2012
Ref: PR 3941
Work is being carried out on the local highways network as the Council continues to improve roads and invest in the future of the district.
Around £2.5m is being invested in more than 60 miles of roads and footpaths across the district as part of the Council’s highway work programme.
Resurfacing work will be taking place on Girnhill Lane in Featherstone from South of the junction with Priory road to outside number 21, from December 18 until 21, weather permitting. Diversion signs will be in place.
Cllr Denise Jeffery, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said roadworks are taking place across the district as part of the ongoing maintenance programme.
“We apologise to drivers and other road users for any inconvenience caused but these works are necessary to maintain and improve our roads,” said Cllr Jeffery.
However, not all roadworks in the district are part of Wakefield Council’s road improvement projects.
Northern Gas networks are laying a new gas main outside 82A Wakefield Road, Kinsley, from December 17 – 21. Traffic lights will be in place.
They are also laying a new service on Northfield Drive in Pontefract, at number 27 from December 19 – 24, traffic lights will be in place.
