Exciting art competition set to launch in Featherstone
Ref: PR 2514
Date: 09/02/2010
An exciting competition for creative schoolchildren to help design a piece of community art is set to be launched.
Pupils from the Featherstone area will be invited to come up with ideas, drawings and sketches for a new piece of public art. The winning entry will be used as the basis for further designs for the artwork.
Once completed, the artwork will be located in a planned new area of public space which forms part of the proposed Lidl supermarket development on the corner of Pontefract Road and Girnhill Lane.
The project is part of the Featherstone Renaissance scheme, aimed at reinvigorating the town by working with local people to breathe new life into it.
Cllr Kay Binnersley, Chair of the Featherstone Renaissance Steering Group, said: “The group is delighted to see proposals coming forward which deliver regeneration in the town, which is much needed. This particular project is an exciting opportunity to involve young people and help them shape the future of their town."
Funding for the art is proposed to come from Lidl through a section 106 agreement, once completed.
