Wakefield Council’s leader has accepted a new role after being invited to join Wakefield Cathedral’s Council.
Links between both councils are set to strengthen when Cllr Peter Box takes his place among other key people from across the district who make up the cathedral council.
The cathedral council’s functions include supporting the work of the cathedral, as well as overseeing its annual budget and annual reports.
Cllr Box said: “It is an honour to be invited to join the cathedral’s council and I am delighted to accept.
“I know the importance of the cathedral to the city and the district as a whole and the work done there to improve and strengthen our communities is fantastic.”
The Very Reverend Jonathan Greener, Dean of Wakefield, added: “We are delighted to welcome Councillor Box to the cathedral council.
“One of our most important roles is to serve the people of Wakefield, so we very much value our links with Wakefield Council and Councillor Box’s presence at the cathedral council can only serve to strengthen these further.”
