Go green at free exciting event

Ref: PR2250
Date: 22/06/2009

Making a difference on climate change and going green are hot topics at the next Wakefield Council Green Living Day.

People are being invited along to Anglers Country Park where the Council’s home energy team will be giving free advice on becoming more efficient.

Visitors will also be able to see solar energy and other renewable energy systems at work, demonstrated by different exhibitors on the day on Sunday June 28.

There’s something for all the family and activities include music, children's entertainment and people can even get a glimpse of bees in an observation hive.

Cllr Denise Jeffery, Wakefield Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This promises to be not only a really exciting day, but incredibly eye-opening.

“I’m sure lots of people will be familiar with climate change issues and new ways of producing energy like solar systems. But to see them working and find a bit more about them is something I’m sure a lot of people will be interested in.

“As a Council, we’re actively working toward creating a cleaner, greener district and events like this are an important part of that work.”

There will also be lots of freebies on the day as well as free face painting, live music, refreshments and free parking on site.

The event runs from 11am to 4pm at the Waterton Countryside Discovery Centre, Anglers Country Park, Wintersett.
