Consultation starts on road improvements near Middlestown
Ref: PR2247
Date: 18/06/2009
Consultations will begin this week to discuss proposed road safety improvements in the Middlestown area.
Wakefield Council will initially be consulting the parish council and local councillors over proposals for traffic calming measures for the A642, between Middlestown crossroads and the district’s boundary.
The proposed scheme includes narrowing the carriageway through Middlestown and creating central hatching. It also includes improving signing and the installation of a flashing warning sign.
Cllr Denise Jeffery, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Issues along this road have been raised so we are responding to that by drawing up early plans and talking to people before making any final decisions.
“The scheme includes a number of new measures specifically designed by our highways team to improve the safety of that stretch of road.”
Should the scheme be given the go ahead, work could start later this year. For more information on transport and highways visit www.wakefield.gov.uk.
