New signs installed to support business

New signs to promote and advertise businesses in the city centre have been installed by Wakefield Council.
Following meetings and discussions with local traders, the boards have been put up in areas around the Trinity Walk development site to help signpost shoppers to the area.
Council officers have been collecting logos from local businesses who want to be involved and signage is being installed along Brook Street, Teall Street, Zetland Street, including The Old Vicarage, and on hoardings near the bus station.
Cllr Denise Jeffery, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said:
“We’ve listened to people’s concerns and acted. They form part of a number of measures being considered and implemented to support businesses, and it’s great to see these boards now going up.
“The feedback we have received from the retailers has been positive and we have also met with some traders to look at the best locations of where the boards will be displayed.
“We are encouraged by the latest progress with Trinity Walk discussions and remain confident that a developer will take on this private scheme and see it completed.”
The latest move forms part of wider measures being led by Wakefield Council, in partnership with Wakefield first, to support business right across the district during the current economic downturn.
The Wakefield Economic Taskforce is a key part of this and includes a helpline and website for all Wakefield businesses to use to get expert advice and support.
