Road Closure - Barnes Road, Glasshoughton

Motorists are being warned of possible disruption on Barnes Road / Leeds Road, Glasshoughton as essential works to construct a new junction between Barnes Road, Leeds Road and the new coalfields link road commence.
The new 3.4 km road will link the Normanton by pass to Leeds Road at Glasshoughton. It will help to ease congestion at the M62 Junction 31 and forms part of the wider regeneration of the former coalfield areas in Castleford and Normanton.
First phase of these works involves the reconstruction of Barnes Road and the re-opening of this principal route to traffic at the earliest opportunity. The second involves the reconstruction of Leeds Road outside proprieties 99 to 101 to form a cul de sac.
As a result of such works, Barnes Road will be closed at its junction with Leeds Road from the 19 May until the 13 June 2008, whilst works on the small section of Leeds Road will be complete by 4 July 2008.
Whilst the closure of Barnes Road is in place, traffic will be diverted via Aketon Road, Lumley Street, Albion Street, Church Street, Saville Road, Aire Street, Bridge Street, Pontefract Road, Leeds Road.
