The Wakefield Partnership for Initial Teacher Training (WPITT)
The Graduate and Overseas Trained Teacher Programmes (OTTP & GTP)
'Quite simply the best' - judged by Ofsted as an Outstanding Provider of Initial Teacher Training (ITT).
WPITT is the only Grade 1 Outstanding Provider in Yorkshire and Humberside and one of only a handful in the UK.
'WPITT recruits high calibre graduates and places them in high quality school placements – a recipe for success'. Ofsted June 2009.
The Wakefield Partnership for Initial Teacher Training (WPITT) is a partnership of high performing Wakefield schools delivering high quality employment based Teacher Training to meet both the needs of Wakefield schools’ needs whilst tapping into local graduate talent and high calibre career changers.
Competition for places is fierce and as an Outstanding Provider of ITT this will increase further, WPITT sets the bar high in order to accept the very best of recruits to its Graduate Teacher Programme. GTP is an example of an Employment-Based Route for Initial Teacher Training (EBITT) into teaching.
An EBITT provides high quality programmes where training is spent in Lead and Second Placement schools for the year and graduate trainees follow an individual training programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Importantly, successful recruits are employed by the Lead school and paid on the Point 1 of the Unqualified Teacher Scale for the duration of their training. Trainees become members of the teaching staff and are never perceived as students by pupils and parents.
WPITT became a fully accredited ITT provider in 2006 following its first very successful Ofsted Inspection, conferring Qualifed Teacher Status (QTS) to successful graduate trainees. WPITT is subject to allocation of training placements by the Training and development Agency (TDA).
WPITT is always interested in hearing from graduates who may have the potential to deliver shortage specialist subjects* to secondary school pupils. Each year we also train a small number of primary teachers and non-shortage subject secondary teachers.
The graduate teacher programme suits mature, well-qualified people who can quickly take on teaching responsibilities and who need to earn a living whilst they train.
