Recruitment for Graduate Teacher Programme

Group of pupils with a teacher

The Wakefield Partnership for Initial Teacher Training (WPITT) - an Outstanding Provider of Initial Teacher Training

Ofsted June 2009

WPITT is a partnership of Wakefield Schools delivering high quality employment based Teacher Training to meet local needs.

Applicants are invited for the following subject/phase with at least a 2:2 degree classification:

  • Primary (all key stages)
  • Secondary – Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Design & Technology, ICT, Modern Languages, English, Geography and History

If you would like to train to teach and have at least 50% of your degree in one of these shortage subjects then we would be interested in hearing from you.

As well as a degree, to be considered for the Graduate Teacher Programme, you must have a GCSE grade C or above or equivalent in Maths and English, and be committed to training to teach in a Wakefield School. Primary candidates also require GCSE Science Grade C or above or equivalent. Please note we do not accept level 2 qualifications as equivalent to GCSE.

Training Grant

Schools may be able to apply for a small number of primary and secondary training grant only places in 2012/13. Trainees are employed by the school and the TDA fund the training.

Self Funded

Schools can also apply to WPITT for a self funded placement where a school pays the trainee’s salary and the training costs. The TDA will pay for final assessment.

Equivalency Tests

For applicants who do not have GCSE Maths, English or Science at grade C or above, equivalency tests from ET Equivalency Testing will be accepted.  Please see 'Related Links' for further information.

Please note Equivalency tests must have been undertaken and successfully passed before the closing date of Wakefield Graduate Teacher Programme applications – 31st December.

Applications from candidates with overseas qualifications must have a comparable statement from the National Recognition Information Centre for the UK (UK NARIC) to support their application.  Further details about UK NARIC can be found in the 'Related Links'.

The Graduate Teacher Programme is an employment-based route into teaching and graduates gain Qualified Teacher Status while training in a school for one year.
