Recruitment for Graduate Teacher Programme

Group of pupils with a teacher

"Quite Simply the Best -  Outstanding Provider of Initial Teacher Training"

Ofsted June 2009

Wakefield Partnership for Initial Teacher Training (WPITT) is a partnership of Wakefield Schools delivering high quality employment based Teacher Training to meet local needs. WPITT is always interested in hearing from graduates who can deliver shortage subjects* to secondary school pupils. Each year we also train a small number of primary teachers and non-shortage subject secondary teachers.

If you would like to train to teach and have at least 50% of your degree in one of these shortage subjects then we would be interested in hearing from you.

As well as a degree, to be considered for the Graduate Teacher Programme, you must have a GCSE grade C or above or equivalent in Maths and English, and be committed to training to teach in a Wakefield Secondary School. Primary candidates also require GCSE Science Grade C or above or equivalent.

Applications from candidates with overseas qualifications must have a comparable statement from the National Recognition Information Centre for the UK (UK NARIC) to support their application.  Further details about UK NARIC can be found in the related links.

The Graduate Teacher Programme is an employment-based route into teaching and graduates gain Qualified Teacher Status while training in a school for one year.

Applicants offering specialist qualifications in maths, science, especially physics and chemistry or food technology may be considered for the programme at other times of the year.

Suitable candidates with Maths or Science related degrees may take advantage of a Maths, Physics or Chemistry enhancement course, prior to the commencement of the programme.

For further information about the programme please see the ‘The Training Page’.
