Apprenticeship Training Programme with Wakefield Council

We, along with our partnering organisations provide the following apprenticships opportunities:

  • Administration Apprentice - normally 2 years duration
  • Horticulture Apprentice - normally 2 years duration
  • Mechanic Apprentice - normally 4 years duration
  • Sports and Recreation Apprentice Activity Leader

All our apprenticshipss take place usually within the Wakefield District Area.

Training

Further education is an important part of the training programme.  All courses undertaken lead to nationally recognised National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) at Levels 2 and 3, a designated Technical Certificate and Key Skills qualifications.

All learners are expected to take part in this element which will include attendance at all classes including evening classes when required. 

The further education colleges we use include Wakefield College, Wakefield Adult Education Service, Leeds College of Building, Barnsley College and Leeds Metropolitan University.

The training programme will begin officially in September with either block release or day release.

Induction

The apprenticeship training will begin in August with a staggered period of induction. The induction includes:

  • the completion of personal details
  • training programme details
  • Wakefield Council and partnering organisation rules and procedures
  • health and safety awareness
  • a period of time placed in one of the service areas, where on-the-job experience is gained. 

Conditions

  • Nationally agreed rates of pay for learners will be paid, but vary according to the skill area undertaken and age of learner on entry.
  • Holiday entitlement is 21 days per full 12 months from 1 April to 31 March (entitlement from July will be pro rata). 
  • Normal statutory holidays apply
  • A sick pay scheme is in operation - details of which would be given at the Induction.
  • Protective clothing - such as overalls, boots, safety helmet and protective goggles etc will be provided together with an appropriate kit of tools (if applicable).
