Private Sector Housing Consultation

Developing the Housing Strategy

We are currently developing our new Housing Strategy and we will be seeking views from:

  • Private Landlords,
  • Homeowners,
  • Local Housing Associations,
  • Care and Repair (Wakefield),
  • Estate Agents,
  • the Rent Service,
  • the local Credit Union
  • and other local authority services

It is intended that we will have out reach days as well as specially convened meetings to examine in detail the options for strategy development and give direction to the final report.

Area based initiatives

Where area based action is being considered, whether it is clearance, environmental improvement or street realm improvements, all the stakeholders in the area are consulted. This includes homeowners, landlords, tenants, Housing Associations, local businesses, local authority services and other statutory bodies. All views are considered before deciding, in partnership, what is the most suitable course of action.

Enforcement in privately rented unfit dwellings

Where the Council finds a dwelling to require some intervention to bring it up to an acceptable standard, the views, wishes and intentions of the landlord and tenant are taken into account so that wherever possible a mutually agreed solution can be found.
