Vulnerable Adults Service

The Vulnerable Adults Service (formerly known as the Open Door Project) is a Council initiative for people who are homeless or in housing need. In recognition of the services provided by the project, the Government awarded the Council Regional Homelessness Champions Status in 2006/07 and appointed it as a Regional Centre of Excellence for Youth Homelessness in 2007/09.

We aim to provide:

  • advice, assistance and support to prevent homelessness
  • temporary/emergency accommodation to those who we have a statutory duty to house
  • a safe temporary living environment with access to resettlement support
  • support to people to enable them to live independently in their own, permanent accommodation
  • adaptations to people's homes to help them live independently
