There will always be some empty properties in the Wakefield District. The majority if these will be short term vacant homes where, for example, they are being sold.  Long term empty properties can however become a problem to a neighbourhood because:-

• they become vandalised
• they are open and unauthorised people are entering the properties
• they are having a detrimental effect on the neighbourhood
• refuse is being dumped in the garden
• they are causing dampness to adjoining properties.
