Starting work?

If you (or your partner) are on Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance and you go back to work, you must tell Jobcentre Plus straight away.

If you are working, you could still be entitled to Housing Benefit.

Want to find out how much benefit you could get once you've started work? Try our Benefit Calculator, using your new (or estimated) details to get a quick and easy estimate. Alternatively, contact us and one of our advisors will be able to work out how much you could qualify for

If you have been on Jobseekers Allowance, Income Support or Income Related Employment Support Allowance (ESA IR) for more than 26 weeks, we may even be able to continue to pay you the same benefit for up to 4 weeks, before your new income has an effect.

Don’t have your wage details yet? Don’t worry. As long as you let us know straight away, we may be able to pay your claim on an estimate. Just tell us how many hours you will be working, what your hourly rate of pay is and what other income you expect to receive (such as Tax Credit estimates).  Ask your new employer to fill in an Earnings Certificate (see related downloads) for you, with your predicted earnings, and get this back to us as soon as you can. Your employer can email this back to us, or alternatively return it by post, in person to Civic Centre, Castleford or any Wakefield District Housing Service Access Points.
