Council Tax Benefit gives 2 types of help:-
- Main Rebate
- Second Adult Rebate
Main Rebate
Main Rebate is for householders on a low weekly income such as:
- a low wage
- social security benefits
- a training allowance.
In some cases, Main Rebate can cover the full Council Tax bill, but how much you get depends on:
- your family size
- your weekly income
- your family savings
- other adults living in your home
- the amount of your Council Tax bill.
Second Adult Rebate
Second Adult Rebate is for householders who are single people. It's worked out from the income of other adults living in their home. It can reduce your Council Tax bill by up to 25%, but the exact amount depends on:
- how many other adults live in your home and what their income is. Other people who rent or own their home can also qualify for Second Adult Rebate in some cases - even if they aren't a single person - if they, or their partner, are:
- a Youth Training Scheme trainee
- permanently in hospital
- severely mentally disabled
- an apprentice
- a full-time student
- a student nurse
- a prisoner.
