Aims of Wakefield Language Services
The below sets out the aims of Wakefield Language Services
- To provide a progressive and high quality range of language services, as and when required.
- To offer services locally, so that interpreters are familiar with the local community they are working in and can respond promptly and intelligibly.
- To maintain the professional status of the interpreting and translation team by implementing a structured career development programme including accredited training and exposure to appropriate work experience, encompassing interpreting, advocacy, translation and counselling.
- To ensure access to out of hours and urgent need requests for language services.
- To ensure the service is managed effectively and has the necessary management and administrative infrastructure to cope with all irregular trend and service uptake.
- To maintain the internal and external evaluation programme to continuously monitor both the quality and cost of the service.
- To be a valuable information source for the planning of new standards, policies and procedures being implemented to improve public services for the black and ethnic minority population in Wakefield
