Wakefield Language Services (WLS)

Wakefield Language Services is an interpretation and translation service based within Family Services, Wakefield District Council.

The service is available for staff from local statutory and voluntary organisations such as Family Services, Health, Housing, Benefits Agencies, Job Centres, GP's etc.

The service can arrange for interpreters to attend appointments such as meetings, interviews, doctor's and hospital appointments.

They can also arrange for documents to be translated into different languages and into Braille, large text and onto audio tape.

Unless you are working within Family Services, there is a charge for the use of the service. For information on charges please contact the service direct.

All our interpreters work to a strict code of ethics, respect confidentiality and have many years experience of carrying out interpreting sessions.

As there is a charge for the service it is the responsibility of organisations to book interpreters not the individual.

Staff within Family Services and some sections of the Council have access to a telephone interpreting service called 'Language Line' which can be used as a first point of contact. For more information see 'Related Links'.
