Positively Ageing

The population in the Wakefield District is changing. By 2021 it is expected that 40% of the districts population will be aged over 50. Like most area's in the country this means we have an ageing population.

As we get older looking after our health and well being is important. We want all our citizens within Wakefield to age positively, regardless of their circumstances. This is not just because we have an ageing  population but also to recognise the vital role older people play in all our communities.

The term ‘ageing positively’ was developed to reflect the aspirations of people to plan for and approach life’s changes as they age, in a positive and active manner. The term embraces the idea of making the most of opportunities which promote a  persons sense of independence, dignity, good health and contribution to society.

Wakefield Together, the name for the Wakefield district partnership, are working on how we can achieve positively ageing for all our residents. A strategy and action plan has been developed with local groups and organisations. This will help shape future services, support and facilities available to help us all age more positively.
