Mental Capacity Act (MCA) Policy

The Mental Capacity Act (MCA) policy is a framework which supports and protects people who may be unable to make some decisions for themselves.  This may be due to a learning disability, a mental health problem, the effects of a stroke or other illness or for other reasons.

Wakefield Council is committed to making sure that those people who use its services and who are unable to make decisions get high quality care from its workforce.  This policy guidance, along with the Code of Practice and Department of Health guidance, aims to ensure that staff use this legislation to protect people unable to make decisions for themselves.

If you work with people who are unable to make decisions for themselves please make yourself familiar with this policy guidance.

If you have any queries please contact  Development Manager, National Policy and Guidance, Room 304, County Hall, Bond Street, Wakefield. Telephone 01924 307793.

For all other queries please contact Social Care Direct - the first point of call for social care services.
