Turning Point's Alcohol and Drug Services agency offering counselling, advice, information and support to current or former substance users, their families and friends.

Who are we?

The project actively seeks to reduce the health risks associated with drinking and drug use.  This includes reducing the risk of transmission of HIV and other infections among injecting drug users.

We offer:-

• a needle and syringe exchange scheme 
• free condoms 
• sexual health service, incorporating working with women in the sex industry
• hepatitis and HIV testing
• safe disposal of used injecting equipment are also available
• young persons specialist service
• training and consultancy for professionals and other organisations
• locality prescribing service
• liaison with other agencies and professionals e.g. housing, social services and probation
• specialist service for dually-diagnosed adults and young people
• hepatitis B screening and vaccination programme
• complimentary therapies including auricular acupuncture & EST (aid to de-tox and stress)
• alcohol link worker
• group worker
• GP liaison / shared care
• residential rehabilitation assessment and referral

Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Services operates a policy of client confidentiality and respects a client's wish to remain anonymous. No personal information is given to any other party without the express permission of that individual.

Facilities

All offices have separate counselling rooms, a training/group room and a separate needle exchange annex with their own entrances.

Follow-up Support

Clients who have previously been in contact with the project are welcome to come back informally for help and support at any time.

Who is the service for?

Anyone in the Wakefield District areas who are concerned about their own or another's alcohol or drug use, whether the drugs are illicit or prescribed (e.g. tranquillisers).  This particularly applies to women and ethnic minorities, who are currently under-represented.

Training for other services

In addition to providing services for clients, the project staff are available to provide training, advice and information of drug related issues to other agencies and organisations in the district.
