Moving forward...

...from emotional, physical, sexual and financial abuse

First steps

If you are experiencing any kind of abuse, you should take these three important steps:-

  • Recognise that it is happening to you
  • Accept that you are not to blame
  • Get the help and support you need - you do not have to deal with this on your own.

Once you have taken these three important steps you may consider making a new life for yourself (and your children).

What next?

Here are some useful actions:-

  • Think about what help your children - or anyone you look after - may need
  • Contact a solicitor
  • Speak to your bank
  • Speak to Housing
  • Visit your GP or Hospital
  • Speak to Benefits Agencies/the Citizen's Advice Bureau
  • Store personal valuables
  • Arrange for the care of pets
  • Consider the benefits of counselling
