Training Programme 2010/2011

The Wakefield and District Safeguarding Children Board Training Programme for 2010/2011 has now been published, and is available in 'related downloads'.

Important: Training Attendance

The Wakefield and District Safeguarding Children Board are currently experiencing a significant problem in relation to non-attendance on our multi-agency training courses. We fully understand that in some cases, when a training place has been booked, the applicant will subsequently be unable to attend due to work commitments, sickness etc. We appreciate the fact that in most of these cases, the applicant, or their manager, will contact the Training Team to advise them that they will be unable to attend. All of our courses are over-subscribed, and we hold a “waiting list” for places. This means that if people let us know that they cannot attend a course, we are able to offer the place to another candidate.

However, recently, we have had an increase in the number of times when people book a training place, and then do not attend the course, but do not let the Training Team know. This creates a significant problem for a number of reasons. Firstly, providing this training is expensive and takes a great deal of planning. Secondly, places are in short supply and it is a great shame that some places are wasted. In addition, if a training course has to be cancelled at very short notice due to poor attendance, the Safeguarding Board still have to pay the trainer.

Please be aware that if you book a place on a training course, and then do not attend but do not notify the Training Team, your team will be invoiced for a fee of £50 to cover administration costs, trainer’s fees etc. In addition, your line manager will be contacted and asked to confirm the reason for non-attendance. Figures for these non-attendances are regularly reported to the Safeguarding Board and therefore may well be raised with senior management in your organisation.

We thank you for your assistance.
