Safeguarding Children Board Sub-Committees

The Wakefield and District Safeguarding Children Board currently has five sub-committees, all of which are chaired by an LSCB member. The purpose of the sub-committees is to carry out the work requested by the Safeguarding Children Board, and to report to the Safeguarding Children Board on progress of the annual Business Plan. The sub-committees also act as a formal forum for the discussion of aspects of safeguarding children in the district and for the sharing of good practice etc. Each sub-committee has its own work-plan that is constantly reviewed and which reflects the content of the LSCB Business Plan.

Detailed information about the function and membership of each sub-committee can be found in 'Downloads'.

Training

This sub-committee is responsible for the ongoing development of the Safeguarding Children Board’s multi-agency training programme. In addition, the sub-committee supports and challenges LSCB agencies on their own internal training provision. The sub-committee is chaired by Gill Green (Acting Director of Nursing for the South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation NHS Wakefield District Trust).

Performance Management

This sub-committee is responsible for obtaining and analysing performance data from LSCB agencies, and for reporting issues or themes that arise to the Safeguarding Children Board and identifying plans to address any issues. The sub-committee is chaired by Lyn Burns (Interim Service Director – WMDC Family Services Safeguarding and Family Support Directorate).

Quality and Review

This sub-committee is responsible for monitoring the implementation of Action Plans arising from Serious Case Reviews and other case reviews and audits. In addition, the sub-committee is responsible for reviewing procedures, and undertaking audits and research into front line safeguarding practice. The sub-committee is chaired by Mandy Sheffield (Head of Safeguarding for NHS Wakefield District).

Child Death Review Subcommittee

This sub-committee is responsible for steering and managing the processes (Chapter 7 of Working Together to Safeguard Children 2010) by which all child deaths that occur within the district are formally reviewed. This includes both the Child Death Review Panel and the SUDIC Rapid Response system. The sub-committee is chaired by Dr Gill Pinder (Consultant in Public Health Medicine – NHS Wakefield District). Serious Case Review Panel

This sub-committee is responsible for decision-making in relation to Serious Case Reviews, and is the mechanism by the which the process of a Serious Case Review is managed and quality-assured. Unlike the others, this sub-committee is convened whenever the LSCB is notified of a case that may meet the criteria for a Serious Case Review, or when a Serious Case Review is in progress. The sub-committee is chaired by Edwina Harrison (Independent Chair of Wakefield and District Safeguarding Children Board).
