Children in Care Council

We want to encourage all children and young people in care and care leavers are to express their views about all issues that concern them.

The Children in Care Council (CICC) is a place where young people in care can have their say on issues that matter to them, and can make sure that they are heard by the people who make decisions. Every one involved in CICC has got experience of being looked after.

A message from young people on our Wakefield Children in Care Council:

We have experienced life in care and it's our aim to improve services for other children looked after in Wakefield. We want to reach out to other children looked after so our voice can represent them. We aim to improve gaps in service delivery in Wakefield because we want children looked after to feel heard and to make their quality of life brighter.

We want the experience of coming into care in Wakefield to make a positive impact on children's lives.

CICC makes sure that you are involved in the design of services for children and young people in Wakefield and the way they are delivered.

This can be anything:

  • from what you would change about your reviews;
  • to the support you get at school;
  • to having a quiet place to study;
  • to choosing what activities are available for you.

Did you know getting involved in participation groups is a good way of developing your self-confidence? This means feeling good about sharing your ideas and feeling positive about yourself.
