Our service helps people who have a sight loss or a hearing loss or a combination of both, which affects their safety, independence and well being.

Our service can:

  • Advise you of local and national organisations that may assist you.
  • Arrange for an assessment for equipment which may help you, e.g. to hear your TV, know someone is at your front door, safely pour hot liquid into cups and mugs.
  • Assess your particular needs and if you are eligible recommend services to help you.

How to contact our Service

You or someone on your behalf can ring Social Care Direct (SCD). Find their details in 'Related Links'.

Your details will be passed to our team if you meet the Council’s Fair Access to Care Services criteria.

People who have been certified Severely Sight Impaired/Blind, or Sight Impaired/Partially Sighted will have their details sent direct to the Team.

Some people may contact one or more of the local Organisations we work with who will pass details to SCD.

Other Organisations

Other organisations have information and advice of a general and specialist nature.  We use them and you may find them helpful.  See the contact details for these organisations in the links below.

National organisations can also offer information and advice.  Find these in 'Related Links'.
