What does Day Service provide?

  • We provide day care as part of an agreed care plan to help support people to remain living in their own home.
  • Specialist Day Care for those people who experience mental health difficulties.
  • Trained staff who will provide assistance.
  • We provide short term and long term support.
  • Meals and refreshments whilst at the unit.
  • Transport if needed.

What happens next?

A care plan will be agreed with you which will set out your needs and include:

  • The days of the week you will attend the centre.
  • Transport arrangements.
  • How your personal care needs will be attended to for example, if you require help with bathing.
  • How your cultural and religious needs will be met.
  • Arrangements for any special dietary needs.
  • The kind of activities you would like to be involved in whilst at the centre e.g. walking and exercise, hobbies and other leisure activities.

Is there a charge?

  • Yes, the charge will depend on your weekly income and whether you are paying for any other services being provided by Family Services.

How many times a week can I attend day care?

  • This will depend on your assessed needs - usually once or twice a week.

How long will I spend in day care?

  • An average day is between 5 and 7 hours.

Will I have to take my medication?

  • Assistance will be given in line with the Department's policy on medication.

Can I smoke at Day Care?

  • Day Centres are non-smoking but there is a designated outdoor smoking area at each centre.
