Before you can receive this service we will carry out an assessment of your needs. Your needs will be assessed against our eligibility criteria. Not everyone who is assessed may receive a service.
We give priority to people who have:-
- difficulty getting in and out of their home,
- difficulty going up and downstairs,
- difficulty reaching the toilet,
- difficulty bathing,
- problems with heating or lighting which affect their health.
A 'functional assessment' will be carried out by an Occupational Therapist or Disability Officer. Depending on your needs we may be able to supply equipment such as:-
- bath seats and lifts,
- toilet frames,
- mobile hoists
- portable ramps.
Some alterations to property may also be done, such as:-
- widening doorways,
- fitting sliding doors,
- fitting ramps
- fitting grab rails.
Should we be unable to adapt your home you may need to move into a property which is more suited to your individual needs. To hep you with this we have a Special Needs Housing Officer.
There is also a Special Needs Housing Panel and Mental Health Panel which may be able to help you get additional priority on the Housing Register.
If we can help you, we aim to visit you within 28 days. However the provision of equipment or building alterations may take longer. We will keep you informed of what is happening.
