P

PaperPackaging

  • Reduce - try to buy goods that have little or no packaging e.g. buy loose fruit and vegetables rather than pre packed products.
  • Recycle – suitable packaging in your recycling box or paper bin or take to a Household Waste Recycling Centre or Mini Recycling Centre. 

Paint

  • Recycle and Reuse – please take to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre. 

Paper

  • Wherever possible buy recycled paper to help protect the environment.
  • Recycle – clean paper in your recycling bin or take to any Household Waste Recycling Centre or Mini Recycling Centre.  

Pesticides

  • Some chemicals contained in pesticides are now banned substances and can be harmful to health.
  • Take them to a Household Waste Recycling Centre or call 0845 8 506 506 for more information on how to dispose of them safely

Plastic

  • Reduce – where possible try not to buy items that have lots of plastic packaging.
  • Reuse – use old plastic containers such as fast food trays and ice cream tubs as storage containers.
  • Recycle – Not all plastics can be recycled. Check underneath the container and if it has a recycling triangle with a number 1, 2 or 3 these can be put into the recycling box or taken to a Household Waste Recycling Centre or Mini Recycling Centre. 

Polystyrene

  • Request that the delivery driver return any polystyrene packaging from electrical appliances to the company for reuse or recycling.
  • Reuse – save for the future for use in storage or when moving house.
  • Alternatively place into your household waste bin. 

Postcards

  • Reuse – postcards can be made into gift tags or donated to local schools or nurseries for craft activities
  • Recycle – place postcards into your paper-recycling bin or take to any Household Waste Recycling Centre or Mini Recycling Centre.

Printer Cartridges

  • Reuse – have used printer cartridges refilled.
  • Reduce - consider buying cartridges refilled cartridges rather than buying new ones.
  • Recycle - Some charities collect old printer cartridges. 

Prosthetics (false limbs)

  • Reuse – some charities collect old prosthetic limbs and send abroad to third world countries. Alternatively, you can contact the manufacturer or a local hospital.
