We strongly encourage residents to reduce, re-use and recycle their waste.
There are seven household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) across the district, where Wakefield residents can recycle a wide range of materials.
The HWRCs are managed by Shanks Waste Management. More information about the HWRCs, what can be recycled at them and how you can obtain a permit can be found on their website. Click the link 'Household Waste Recycling Centres - Shanks website' below for more information.
Please note: There are 2m height barriers at all the Household Waste Recycling Centres except Wakefield. These can be opened for you on Tuesday and Thursdays.
Waste Management Contract – Improvements to tips
Over the next few years a number of improvements will be made to Household Waste Recycling Centres throughout the district. These changes are part of the long term plan to reduce waste and increase recycling.
The first stage of the changes are complete and the newly refurbished Normanton Recycling Centre is now open. The second phase is underway and Denby Dale Road Recycling Centre is now closed for refurbishment until spring 2015. During this time the temporary Recycling Centre at Calder Vale Road will remain open.
